  • Adult Sailing School - Comprehensive sailing instruction on Rhodes 19 keelboats
  • Youth Sailing Program - Skill development for ages 8-18 in a safe, fun environment
  • Educational Seminars - Ongoing learning opportunities throughout the season

The Connection

While Corinthian University operates as a separate 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (legally incorporated as Chicago Corinthian Yacht Club Junior Fleet, Inc.), it was founded by CCYC members and continues to work in close partnership with the club. Think of Corinthian University as CCYC's educational mission in action, carrying forward our commitment to teaching sailing and promoting safe boating on Lake Michigan.

This structure allows Corinthian University to:

  • Operate as a tax-exempt educational nonprofit, making programs more affordable
  • Apply for grants and accept tax-deductible donations dedicated to sailing education
  • Maintain professional instructors and comprehensive programming
  • Serve both CCYC members and the broader Chicago sailing community

How It Started

The story began when CCYC members wanted to create a robust youth sailing program, the original "Junior Fleet." As the program grew and CCYC's adult education initiatives (Adult Sailing School and Crew School) joined the mission, it became clear that a dedicated educational organization with nonprofit status could better serve our community.

The name "Corinthian University" was chosen to reflect the union of multiple sailing schools under one banner, much like a university brings together different colleges. It embodies our belief in the Corinthian spirit, the pursuit of excellence in amateur sport with fair play and integrity.
