The Corinthian Cruising Fleet invites you to an unforgettable evening with explorer and conservationist Matt Rutherford. In 2011, Matt set out to do what no one had ever done before: sail solo around the Americas. His vessel was a 40-year-old, 27-foot sailboat named St. Brendan. What followed was a harrowing and awe-inspiring expedition through some of the most remote and unforgiving waters on the planet. That historic voyage became the foundation for Matt’s next chapter: founding and leading the Ocean Research Project, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing scientific knowledge of our oceans through hands-on exploration. By partnering with researchers and deploying small, crewed sailboats into under-studied waters, the Ocean Research Project collects critical data on marine ecosystems & climate change. Join us as Matt shares gripping stories from the edge of endurance, lessons learned at sea, and how adventure-driven exploration can directly support meaningful science and conservation. This is a rare opportunity to hear from a sailor who embodies grit, humility, and a profound respect for the wild places that shape our world.
